"When I was 13 years old I had signs of Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP), but was not officially diagnosed until my early 50's. I worked in computer programming for 25 years until I found my niche as a data processing manager until 1990. I had been to several Low Vision Clinics where doctors would examine my vision condition because they wanted to learn more but never gave me a concrete answer. I felt frustrated and alone thinking there was no one out there to help. I joined BCABVI's Adjustment to Blindness support group and found friendship. Having the opportunity to meet people with the same situation and talk about similar challenges gave me confidence. With my newfound self-esteem I was invited to join the Association's Board and provide my opinion for agency policies."
